Digital Scrapbooking FAQs

What is digital scrapbooking or computer scrapbooking?

Digital scrapbooking is a growing trend in the scrapbooking industry. Scrapbook layouts are made entirely on a computer. The digital scrapbook artist uses an image-editing program or graphics software to manipulate the photos, the embellishments, or elements, and the background papers. The most widely used programs include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Corel Paint Shop Pro. If you are a beginner, try our online scrapbooking site, CropMom, to get started.

Our digital scrapbooking kits work with most photo-editing programs. Our files generally come in the .jpeg and .png formats, although our templates come in the form of .psd files and some of the brushes we sell come as .abr files. You will need a photo-editing program to be able to use the digital graphic files sold in our store.

What types of computer software works with the kits in your store?

Our digital scrapbooking kits generally have two types of file formats. Background papers are .jpeg files. Elements usually come as transparent .png files.  Most templates in our store are sold as layered .psd files. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements and newer versions of Corel Paint Shop Pro can read all three file formats. Microsoft Digital Image Pro can read all but the .psd files. Other computer programs can be used with our kits (the .jpeg and .png files, as well). Some digital scrapbook artists use Microsoft Picture-It. There are other, less-used programs that can read our files, as well. Look for a program that can read .jpegs and .png files.

What types of payments do you accept?

KB and Friends accepts payments via PayPal or through 2Checkout, an authorized retailer of KB and Friends. Both accept credit cards.  We no longer accept e-checks through PayPal.

How are my purchases from the store delivered?

The products sold in our store are digital files, unless otherwise noted. They are delivered electronically as downloadable .zip files. You will need a program to unzip the files - generally WinZip for Windows-based PCs or UnStuffit for Macintosh systems.  Most Windows computers come with an unzipping program.

A download link will be e-mailed to you immediately after your transaction clears, generally within minutes of your purchase. The download link is also available by logging onto your account here at KB and Friends.

Unless otherwise noted, all of the products purchased in our store are digital files that are delivered electronically. You will not receive tangible goods shipped in the mail.

How do I download a kit that I have purchased?

You should receive an email with the links to download your purchases. If however, you do not receive the email or you need to re-download your purchases, follow these steps.

Sign into the store. Click on your account. Find the invoice for the purchase. In small gray letters under the name of the product is the word "download." Click on it, and a new page will open up. On that page, you will find a link to download the product you purchased.

If you have a dial-up connection to the Internet, you may want to consider using a download manager, such as GetRight, to resume downloading if an error occurs. Those on dial-up connections should consider having large kits burned to a CD. Downloadable files will be delivered as .zip files. Click on the zip file and extract the items to the folder of your choice. If you don’t have an unzipping program already installed on your computer, you’ll need Winzip (for Windows) or Stuff it Expander (for Macs) to extract the items.

How can I be assured that the files in the kit will look as good in print as they do on the computer?

All of our kits are of the highest quality, 300 pixels per inch, so that you can print them without fear of pixelation. Our backgrounds are sized at 12 inches by 12 inches, unless otherwise indicated. When creating a layout that you plan to print, make sure the file is 300 pixels per inch.

Can I use your scrapbooking kits for commercial use?

No, we do not allow commercial use of our digital scrapbooking graphics. They are for personal use only. You may not sell our kits, you may not give our kits away and you may not make derivative products from our kits them sell them or give them away. You may, however, give flattened images of layouts you've made using our kits as gifts.

Can I share your kits with my friends?

No, our terms of use specifically prohibit the sharing or redistributing of our kits. Please don’t share even the free kits that we offer. If you have a friend that likes our digital scrapbooking kits, please direct them to this Web site.

Can I submit my layouts using your kits or elements to a scrapbooking magazine?

By all means, please do submit your layouts to scrapbooking magazines and books. Just make sure to give the kit designer credit. And if you get published, send us an e-mail. We’d love to celebrate your good news

Can the digital scrapbook kits sold in your store be used for paper scrapbooking?

Yes, if you have a computer, Internet connection and a printer, you can use our kits for paper scrapbooking. The background papers in our kits are sized at 12" by 12" but they can be printed on 8.5" by 11" paper if you don't have a printer capable of large-sized prints. We have customers who have used our digital products to make paper cards and paper scrapbooks. One of the benefits of the digital files is that they can be recolored using a computer graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop Elements. The digital files can also be resized, so you can print embellishments exactly the size you need them to be. And, finally, you can use our digital scrapbook kits over and over again for your personal scrapbooking needs. Please don't print our digital files and use them for any professional, commercial or money-making endeavor unless you purchased a kit from our commercial use section or have obtained the kit designer's written approval.

Is my login information for the shop the same as in the forums and gallery?
